30/08/2012: Iron Sky [2012]

When I first watched a trailer for a movie called Iron Sky in which the Nazis had hidden on the dark side of the moon sine 1945  I'm not sure what I thought. It was an intriguing concept, and the trailer had a lavish display of special effects, but I just added it to my watchlist and figured it would be just another sci-fi comedy B-movie I might one day get around to seeing. After watching it, I would say that Iron Sky is at the forefront of a new era in cinema, where original independent movies should be able to easily compete with and dominate any large budget Hollywood CGI fun-fests.

09/06/2012: Total Recall [1990]

After seeing the new Total Recall trailer again in theatres, I figured it was about time I watched the original. The trailer for the remake looks very interesting, and so I figured I might want to have the original to compare it to when and if I catch that one in theatres. So after I got back from viewing The Cabin In The Woods again in theatre, I threw it on to finish up the night.

08/06/2012: Prometheus [2012]

I can happily announce to you all that I was the very first person in line, for Prometheus. I showed up and hour early, and anxiously waited for the moment I could enter the theatre. What I will go on to tell you, is unfortunately, unlikely spoiler free, but if there is two pieces of information you shall take away before you go see it they are: One, Prometheus is as epic as it attempts to be, without losing its head in the clouds. Second, it is undoubtedly in the Alien universe, just not a direct prequel.

31/12/2011: Moon [2009]

I don't want to ruin the plot of this amazing movie so I will stay away from that. Moon is about a lone man who works on a base on the moon, and is nearing the end of his 3 year contract. The movie is a rather sad story about this man as he prepares to return to earth.

The set is quite amazing featuring a rather large moon base, complete with vehicles, computers and a robot who controls everything. The cinematography is standard inside the base but is filled with a few beautiful views of the earth and space when outside.

That is about all I care to say about the movie, not wanting to ruin it. I would also suggest avoiding any summary's or such. But if you enjoy space movies, thrillers, or those few films shot with one character this is an amazing movie.

21/12/2011: Event Horizon [1997]

I am not a big fan of space movies, but space horrors always seem great. Event Horizon follows a search and rescue ship that is sent to search the recently found Event Horizon, a ship which dissapeared years ago.
Clearly a large inspiration for Pandorum [2009], Event Horizon features a similar plotline but is much more mental/psychological and less substantial/physical horror, which is sadly unexplained. However this is a top notch space horror flick, especially if you liked Pandorum.
